Twisted Pink is a movement to change the way we fundraise for a cure to breast cancer. Caroline Johnson was diagnosed with stage III ER+ breast cancer in May 2013. She completed the standard of care for her breast cancer type and stage. This care included multiple surgeries to remove the tumor, reconstruction, chemotherapy, radiation and hormone therapy to prevent recurrence. Along her cancer journey, Caroline met several other cancer survivors. These women were diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer after the 5 year point that most people celebrate as their "cancer free" anniversary date. Caroline educated herself on the true facts and statistics about breast cancer mortality and saw a need to share this information. Twisted Pink is the result of learning what the pink ribbon represents and what it truly means to walk the path of breast cancer with the knowledge that 20-30% of those diagnosed with the disease will ultimately face a lifelong battle. Twisted Pink has planted a seed to change the way we fundraise for a cure and educate the general public about breast cancer. We can no longer hide behind a pretty pink ribbon to win the battle. We MUST DO MORE!
